Dear Students and Parents,

The year just keeps getting busier and busier. We had some great events here at Manhattan Beach Middle School during the past month. Both the band and strings programs had their fall recitals. It was amazing to hear these young artists. Everyone had an extraordinary experience. Over 250 6th grade students joined us for the 6th grade celebration at Malibu Golf Course. We had a great time playing golf, video games, eating, and just hanging out with new and old friends. We look forward to the next celebration on December 2nd.

As always the 7th and 8th grade Monster Mash Dance was a huge success. It is so much fun to see the students enjoy themselves. We had fun dancing the evening away. On Halloween, many students dressed up in such wonderful costumes. It was a real showing of school spirit.

The sports teams of MBMS had a rewarding month. The football team has been doing a great job. The girl’s volleyball teams are undefeated and have been rolling over their opponents. Water polo has had several meets and as always is very exciting to watch. Cross-Country has been running their hearts out. The 8th grade swim meet was fantastic. Keep up the good work!

On October 20th I was able to attend the Manhattan Beach Coordinating Council meeting where they recognized Jennifer Rosenthal as our student of the month. This is a great honor and it was humbling to hear all the wonderful things she is doing for her school and the community. Congratulations to Jennifer. Progress reports were mailed home on October 31st. If your child received a progress report, please review it with them and set up some strategies to help them be more successful.

Traffic is still a problem here at MBMS. Please be careful when dropping off or picking up your children. Please do not stop on the east side of Redondo and drop off your children. This creates a dangerous situation when they try to run across the street.

A big MBMS thank you to Dave Harris. Dave is running a stock market simulation program with several of our math classes. He has been able to make math come alive for these students by giving them hands-on training on how the stock market works. Dave is an investment advisor for Harris and Associates located at 505 N. Sepulveda, (310) 318-3700. Thanks again Dave for all your hard work to help our students.

Attendance is always an issue for school districts. When students are not at school, we lose funding. I want to thank the following families for reimbursing the district when their children were absent:

Daniel and Irene Bronner

Janet and Paul Chapman

Randall Duprey and Shannon Terry

Thank you to the following families for their donations of food and/or supplies to the school:

Paul/Janet Chapman

Reza/Rozita Morshiri

Mark/Robin Pittman

Donald & Jacquline Jung

Stephen & Kristin Vale

Russ O'Banion & Tracey Ells

Mark & Isabel Neal

Ron & Vicki Garfield

James & Patricia Kelley

Mike & Janet O'Connell

Keith & Louise Williamson

Don & Karen Means

Paul & Janet Chapman

Jonathan/Freddi Gidan

Things are not slowing down here at MBMS. November is jam- packed with activities. We have the 7th grade family writing program, the Holiday Boutique, the 7th grade drama productions, the American Jr. High Math Competition, the Winter Band Concert, the Winter Strings Concert, and of course the 6th grade Outdoor Science School.

Thank you for all your support,

John Jackson
