Great News About Mira Costa High School That You Can Read In 60 Seconds

November 25, 2007

AN UNPRECEDENTED DISPLAY OF SCHOOL SPIRIT HAS ERUPTED AT MIRA COSTA THIS YEAR…

…with the formation of The Stampede, a ‘rooter crew’ deployed at every sporting match to encourage positive cheering and support the high school’s student athletes. Morgan Rosen and Jarett Margolis, ASB (Student Council) President and Vice President, respectively, initiated the idea after learning at a leadership conference that MCHS was the only high school in the South Bay lacking such a cheering section.  Anyone can join The Stampede by purchasing, for the nominal sum of $7, a green Stampede t-shirt.  Wearing your green shirt to any athletic event guarantees you admission to ‘The Corral,’ a designated cheering area.  As Margolis explains, “The Stampede has been a huge success...On two different days this school year, we have had Stampede Day when everyone wears their shirts to school and then comes out to the game.  We have attended water-polo games and volleyball games, but so far the best turn out has been at the football games. At the Redondo game, it was a sight to see a bunch of Mira Costa Stampede members cheering their butts off!”  Stampede t-shirts are available at most sporting events, or by emailing MCstampede@gmail.com

ENDING THE MONTH ON A HIGH NOTE….

The Mira Costa Music Department has been selected as a finalist in the 2008 National Grammy Signature Schools Program!  MCHS is one of only a hundred schools across the country chosen to participate in this prestigious program, which was established in 1998 to recognize American public high schools which are making an outstanding commitment to music education. Next month, the department will submit recordings of its ensembles for the judges to review; the results will be released in March.
