STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Congratulations to the students who have
been selected for next year’s staff of the Riptide Reader, otherwise known
as journalism. The list of selected students is posted in the front office
and outside of several English classrooms. Congratulations!
Congratulations to the following
students who participated in the PTA Reflections contest earlier in the
school year.
Jigar Bhakta—Won
first place and went on to win first place in the entire 33rd
District for his musical composition.
Victoria Jasuta—won
first place in the Manhattan Beach District, and received an honorable
mention in the 33rd District for her literature entry.
Margaret Ginoza—won
first place in the Manhattan Beach District for her photography entry.
Once again, congratulations to Jigar
Bhakta, Victoria Jasuta and Margaret Ginoza—and thank you to all the
students who entered the Reflections contest.
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS—any
items left in the P. E. lockers after TODAY will be bagged and
donated to Goodwill. This includes sweatshirts, shoes, and any useable

to the Ninjas (Jack Hadley, Gordon Cardenas, Grant Southwood, Travis
Bradford, Luke Wergeles, and Nick DeNiro)!!! They won the dodge ball
Tournament for 2008 by defeating the North Compton wildcats (Cooper Pugnale,
Ryan Walker, Cole Feaster, Brandon Boggs and Enzo Kajiya). Both teams
played a great match. Thank you to all the teams that participated in the
tournament

SPACE WEEK IS HERE!
The 3rd Annual MBMS Space
Week is June 9-13, 2008, filled with many exciting and interesting events
including: The Traveling Space Museum on June 10th, the Star
Party on June 11th, and the Sky Dome Planetarium on June 12th!
Thanks to everyone who donated to the
China Relief Fund. Our school will be able to donate about $500 to help
victims of the earthquakes in China. Thank you Cassie Gonzales for
organizing this important fundraiser. If any classes still have the
donation box, please send it to room 113 today.
Pride Day is coming. It will be on
Friday the 13th from 3-6. All are invited to help make out
school more beautiful. We will work and we will have great snacks. See
you there.

Attention All Students:
Dodge ball continues
this week in the gym. Please check the leader board to
find out which four teams are playing per day.
Help MBMS Help! As
you know there was a 7.9 magnitude earthquake on May 12th in
China and 67,000 people have lost their lives so far.
Ambassadors are sponsoring a fundraiser this week to try to help with
relief for China. There will be containers in your
classes. Please drop off any change you would like to
contribute to the China Relief Fund. Containers need to
be handed in to 113 by 3 pm Thursday.
The tryouts for 8th grade
students who wish to speak at promotion will be held today in room 113 at 3
pm. Please have two copies of your speech available,
one for yourself and one for the teachers who will be selecting the two
speakers. Winners will be announced in 113 on Tuesday
during nutrition.
8th grade t-shirt orders are
due by Wednesday of this week. T-shirts cost $8 and
will have the names of all students in the class.
Please fill out the order form available in the office and attach a check
for $8 made out to MBMS ASB. Put your money and form in
the box in the office labeled 8th grade t-shirts.
At promotion Mr. Jackson will honor all
8th graders who have received all A’s/and or all A-‘s on all
report cards during middle school. If you have received
all A’s or A-‘s so far, please stop by room 113 and leave your name so that
you will be included in this award.
ASB meets tomorrow in room 113 during
lunch. There are a lot of important things going on
now, so please be sure not to miss the meeting if you are a rep.
6th graders. If you would
like to be on ASB next year as a 7th grade rep, be sure you hand
in your paragraph and permission slip to Mrs. Robertson today before you go
home. All 6th graders will have a chance to
vote for the 4 reps for next year Friday during humanities.

If you forgot to order a panorama picture and would like to own one, you
are in luck. We have some extra ones for you to buy for
$20.00. Please see Mrs. Kawamoto.
Have you turned in your Spring Pictures
or payment for the pictures? Please deposit either the

Are you going into the eighth grade?
Do you like to sing and act? Come to an
informational meeting about the MBMS Musical Theater in Miss Gold’s room,
room 120, this Friday, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Members of
Musical Theater must also be members of one of the MBMS choirs during

Ambassadors Club will meet today at 3 in
room 107. We will be planning and preparing for a coin drive. We will
donate the coins to the relief effort in China. Coin boxes will be
delivered to each 6th period class Friday and will be turned
back in to Ambassadors on Friday the 6th of June.
Don’t forget to order your 8th

Speaking of promotion, the tryouts to
speak at promotion will take place in room 113 on Tuesday, June 3rd
after school. Two 8th graders will be chosen. Speeches must
address the theme “Remember the Past, Imagine the Future” and should be
short, between 1 and 2 minutes. Any questions, ask Mr. Jackson, Ms.
Schreiner, or Mrs. O’Connell.
If you are in 6th grade and
are considering running for next year’s student cabinet class as 7th
grade reps, this year’s reps will be coming to your humanities class this
week to explain the class and give you the form. Candidates will only need
to write a paragraph telling why they would like to be chosen. There are
no formal speeches for candidates for 7th grade rep.
Grandview will have a blood drive this
Friday from 8:30 until 2:30. Please tell your parents about the blood
drive. They may make an appointment at
